Iranian Soy Market, Importers, Exporters, Buyers, and Statistics – Different Products from Soy
Soybean belongs to the category of legumes and is a tropical plant native to Southeast Asia. This plant does not contain cholesterol and the amount of saturated fatty acids (SFA) in soy is low. Soybean is the only plant food that contains all 8 essential amino acids. It is also a good source of fiber, iron, calcium, zinc, and B vitamins. Soy is the cheapest and one of the most complete sources of protein. This nutritious seed can replace animal protein, especially in the diet of vegetarians. Soy protein is more similar to animal protein than other grains. Oil extracted from soybeans is also one of the most important types of oils. This oil contains very high linoleic acid and therefore it cannot be used for frying oil. Soybean is poor in amino acid methionine compared to sesame, but it is high in amino acid lysine.
More about Soybean
Soybean is an annual bushy legume. It grows between 12 and 36 inches (30 and 91 cm) tall. The stems and leaves of Soybeans are fuzzy. The flowers are white with shades of lavender. The pods are 1-4 inches (2.5-10 cm) long and grow in clusters of three to five. Each fuzzy pod contains 2 to 4 seeds. There are more than 10,000 soybean varieties. Colors range from black to gray, brown, green, yellow, white, and striped. The seeds can be as small as a pea or as large as a cowpea. Soybeans are planted in the spring 2 to 3 weeks after the average last date of winter when the soil has warmed to at least 60°F (16°C). Soybeans can be planted earlier in warm winter areas. Soybeans grow best where the average daytime temperature is 70°F (21°C).
In Which Regions of Iran Is Soybean Grown?
More than 86,000 hectares of land under soybean cultivation produce the best nutritious seeds from this group of agricultural products. The provinces of Fars, Isfahan, Gilan, North Khorasan, Tehran, Zanjan, Qazvin, Khuzestan, and several other regions have the largest soybean cultivation lands.
What is the Difference between Soybeans and Soybean Nuts?
Soybeans are picked when they are green, but soybean nuts are prepared by soaking in water and undergoing some processes. Soybean nuts are often flavored. Like other legumes, this nutritious seed is an excellent plant-based source of protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals in both varieties. Despite their similarities, soybean nuts and green soybeans are different in the methods of preparation, consumption, and maturation of soybeans at the time of harvest, and they are also different in terms of nutritional value. Soybean nuts are prepared from mature seeds separated from their pods. To achieve a crunchy, nutty texture, these seeds are soaked in water, then seasoned and roasted or baked. In contrast, raw or green soybeans are immature soybeans that are picked in pods. The process of roasting and removing the pod leads to the removal of 20% of the juice of this bean. Also, soybean nuts have a much higher nutritional content than their green counterparts per weight unit.
What is a Soybean Meal?
When soybeans are pressed and water and oil are extracted, what remains is called soybean meal. Soybean meal is not used for human food, but it is a good material for livestock, poultry, fish, and other animals. A large amount of import of this important product is used to enrich livestock and poultry feed in terms of protein percentage. By adding soybean meal to livestock and poultry feed, its protein can be increased up to 49%. This means that nutrients are provided to the animals so that they can grow better.
What is Soybean Oil?
Soybean oil is a vegetable oil that is extracted from soybeans and is one of the most widely used vegetable oils in cooking. Processed soybean oil is used as a base oil for printing ink, oil paint, and drying oil. These days, the biggest producers of this oil in the world are China, America, Brazil, Argentina, and India. In America, more than 60% of vegetable oil used by people is soybean oil. In 2018 and 2019, 62 million tons of soybean oil were produced worldwide and it is one of the most common cooking oils available. The main composition of this oil is triglyceride or acylglycerol. To produce soybean oil, soybeans are crushed and then heated at a temperature of 60 to 88 degrees Celsius, and then their oil is extracted using hexane. Then the oil is refined and sometimes hydrogenated. This oil is used in a wide range of processed foods. Soybean oil is used for frying food and salad seasoning.

Since the domestic production is not sufficient for its consumption, the need to import is clear. Many companies import a large amount of this product from different countries. For this reason, the bulk purchase of soybeans from foreign countries by domestic producers is very common.
