Ferroalloys are different alloys of iron that, in addition to iron, contain a significant amount of one or more other elements such as manganese, carbon, or silicon. In all ferroalloys, iron is known as the primary element. Of course, in many types of this ferroalloy, the amount of iron is less than 50% and in combination with one or more other reactive elements, it is widely used in the steel and cast-iron industry. In this way, in steel and cast-iron production industries, these ferroalloys are combined with molten metal, and in this way, steel and cast iron with useful mechanical properties are produced. In other words, ferroalloys are iron alloys combined with Si, Me, Mo, V, Ni, Co, and other elements and are used for the deoxidation and alloying of steel. Among the most common ferroalloys, we can mention ferrosilicon, ferromanganese, ferrochrome, ferrovanadium, and ferrotungsten. Ferroalloys may use a single reactive element or multiple reactive elements known as alloying systems such as nickel or cobalt. These ferroalloys guarantee the formation of unique properties in steel and cast iron and play a key role in the cycle of iron and steel production. The most common deoxidizer that the iron and steel industry cannot do without is ferromanganese. Free manganese is a white metal with a close-to-pink color. Ferromanganese also has a pink color, but it has a much larger crystal structure than the element manganese. The main components of this ferroalloy are iron and manganese. In other words, ferromanganese (with the chemical formula MnO2Fe2O3) is an alloy with 70 to 90% manganese and is used for desulfurization and oxidation of molten steel.
